An encounter with an amazing person...

Have you ever wondered how a chance meeting can just change a life for ever?

Well, it just did to me.

I was on a short trip to South of India recently and then on my attitude towards life changed completely.

It was as if destined that I actually bumped into a clinic there when I met this doctor. And I don't think I have met any such person ever... With all due respects to my friends, well wishers some of whom are doctors by profession... but this one person was different.

As if we were supposed to meet by any odds, we just became very friendly and talked and talked for hours... I guess that night was in many ways a revelation of sorts...

To begin with, he is 10 years younger than me. I mean just 27 years old. Recently finished his MBBS. He's already employed as a govt doctor and taking care of cases that are immediate and require critical care. Very soon he will be doing further specialization in anesthetic or some similar level (If I understood this correctly!)

But yes, this doesn't make him a special person I agree.

Here is a doctor who wants to be in the same village where he has spent his 27 years of his life and give back what he got from his home town. Imagine the professionals today (Me included!)... the moment we get some status and respect in society in terms of designations, titles etc... we raise our head high in the air as if we are so far sighted... we head towards foreign shores... And then there are people like this doctor who want to stay in their home country and give back what they got from their motherland. Truly amazing thought!

It's a small and virtually a sleepy district.
I mean imagine you are from any of the metros and you have had a chance to be here. By 08:00 pm people wind up their work and head home. Shops are closed at the same time. Streets are almost dark and deserted with very few cycles, bikes, share auto and govt buses roaming the streets... I sometimes wonder how can a place like this accept a person like me... I mean I am night person. My day starts only after eight.... and here's a place where all ends at this time...

I would surely not dig deeper into his past, but after having spoken to him I could imagine his upbringing. If he is what he is today, I would surely credit this to another usually unsung hero... his mother. Troubled brewed into her paradise early on but she kept her head high and brought up her son in the most amazing way. She is still working odd hours and truly by God's grace, her son is a doctor today! This may really sound filmy but a true reflection of our society today. We may fail to notice all these but ultimately these are the things that are worthy of mention and not the other material things man accomplishes! A house, car etc will come to us anytime but such upbringing and outlook towards life is what makes life worth living...

Thats not enough...

I was all the more amazed to hear from this gentleman that he has 36 kids!!!
Yes, he's responsible towards 36 kids. Isn't that amazing? I mean just imagine, your life, your thoughts involves around raising 36 kids. These kids are sourced out from various villages across his district and all these kids are orphans. Some are abandoned. Some are neglected child. Some lost their parents in some natural calamity...

I was taken aback with this number. I mean these days we barely raise one kid decently and here is a young man, about to be married and having a life of his own who manages an orphanage... Truly amazing!
This doctor does not want them to be sent to foster homes. His objective is to raise these kids well, give them proper education and make them responsible citizens who will carry this light as they grow. I was touched beyond words. So much so that I addressed him as Sir or Doctor than call by his first name. I even touched his feet for what he has been doing...

I guess in my lifetime, I have rarely seen such people with mighty heart and amazing will to do what he has been doing. And kudos to him and his mom always standing by his decision...

It's a huge responsibility and a very tough path to even take up what he has been doing... And I am sure God is watching all this and extremely happy with what this amazing person is upto...
