Children see, Children do...

Please watch this video first.

DDB Sydney has launched a new social change campaign for client NAPCAN (National Association for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect), headed by a confronting TVC entitled ‘children see, children do’.
The campaign coincides with National Child Protection Week and highlights how thoughtless, aggressive, self-centred and violent behaviour by adults is copied and continued by children.
The 90-second spot ran across free-to-air and pay-TV as well as cinemas. It emphasizes the need for adults to set a good example and break the cycle by making their influence on the next generation a positive one.

It's high time that we as adults behave like adults and be role models for our kids.
Whatever we say, do would ultimately affect our kids profoundly.

Let's measure our words, thoughts, actions to an extent where it does not create a negative ripple amongst our kids...

10 things I wish my kids carry with them...

You are what you wear up your sleeve. Your society is a reflection of who you are and what you do...
In many ways than one, it is ultimately in our hands to mold things around us. There are few amongst us who want to make it a better place.

I don't know to what extent will my contribution would apply but there are ten things that I would advise my kids to always carry with them...

The right attitude
I can't imagine a person without this. I mean the positive ones of course. No matter what my dear kids... make sure to get hooked onto only the positive attitudes

Past is yesterday, today is tomorrow
Always be farsighted. Never turn back. Unless you wanna say good bye and always hope for the best

Always on the Go.. but no E-Go!
Always be ready for the next leap. That next step. That milestone. Have no ego... no matter what

Say it with... a Yes!
Always be ready to grab opportunities. Don't be shy of them. Grab it when you can

A noble heart
Always have empathy towards the old and the poor. Coz' you'll grow old one day and it doesn't take time to turn poor!

And a rational mind
When taking decisions, think from your mind. Let your heart keep you rooted on the ground and your mind towards the sky. While taking decisions, be wise and remember while in the process... never ever hurt anyone!

So sorry... I love you
The words may be easy but always use them wherever and whenever you can. While doing so... mean what you say! Always show your feelings to your loved ones!

The big picture
Always focus on the big picture. It's OK if you are hurt by someone or something or some action. But focus about the larger issues. It is easy to get carried away with small and paltry things...

Give back what you have got!
Always spend some time in something where you don't expect anything in return. It could be aid, help, charity whatever your heart sets it's mind on! And while doing that don't boast your achievements.

One for the road...
Always carry your iPod with you. Your fave collection of songs/ albums/ artists... They provide great company even during the most sober times...

Dear child, we may not be there forever with you as you keep going ahead.
Our pride is not in providing you food, shelter or all the other materialistic comforts in the world...

But this is all we can offer you for your incredible journey called... Life!

We hope you pack these well and have a wonderful journey!

An encounter with an amazing person...

Have you ever wondered how a chance meeting can just change a life for ever?

Well, it just did to me.

I was on a short trip to South of India recently and then on my attitude towards life changed completely.

It was as if destined that I actually bumped into a clinic there when I met this doctor. And I don't think I have met any such person ever... With all due respects to my friends, well wishers some of whom are doctors by profession... but this one person was different.

As if we were supposed to meet by any odds, we just became very friendly and talked and talked for hours... I guess that night was in many ways a revelation of sorts...

To begin with, he is 10 years younger than me. I mean just 27 years old. Recently finished his MBBS. He's already employed as a govt doctor and taking care of cases that are immediate and require critical care. Very soon he will be doing further specialization in anesthetic or some similar level (If I understood this correctly!)

But yes, this doesn't make him a special person I agree.

Here is a doctor who wants to be in the same village where he has spent his 27 years of his life and give back what he got from his home town. Imagine the professionals today (Me included!)... the moment we get some status and respect in society in terms of designations, titles etc... we raise our head high in the air as if we are so far sighted... we head towards foreign shores... And then there are people like this doctor who want to stay in their home country and give back what they got from their motherland. Truly amazing thought!

It's a small and virtually a sleepy district.
I mean imagine you are from any of the metros and you have had a chance to be here. By 08:00 pm people wind up their work and head home. Shops are closed at the same time. Streets are almost dark and deserted with very few cycles, bikes, share auto and govt buses roaming the streets... I sometimes wonder how can a place like this accept a person like me... I mean I am night person. My day starts only after eight.... and here's a place where all ends at this time...

I would surely not dig deeper into his past, but after having spoken to him I could imagine his upbringing. If he is what he is today, I would surely credit this to another usually unsung hero... his mother. Troubled brewed into her paradise early on but she kept her head high and brought up her son in the most amazing way. She is still working odd hours and truly by God's grace, her son is a doctor today! This may really sound filmy but a true reflection of our society today. We may fail to notice all these but ultimately these are the things that are worthy of mention and not the other material things man accomplishes! A house, car etc will come to us anytime but such upbringing and outlook towards life is what makes life worth living...

Thats not enough...

I was all the more amazed to hear from this gentleman that he has 36 kids!!!
Yes, he's responsible towards 36 kids. Isn't that amazing? I mean just imagine, your life, your thoughts involves around raising 36 kids. These kids are sourced out from various villages across his district and all these kids are orphans. Some are abandoned. Some are neglected child. Some lost their parents in some natural calamity...

I was taken aback with this number. I mean these days we barely raise one kid decently and here is a young man, about to be married and having a life of his own who manages an orphanage... Truly amazing!
This doctor does not want them to be sent to foster homes. His objective is to raise these kids well, give them proper education and make them responsible citizens who will carry this light as they grow. I was touched beyond words. So much so that I addressed him as Sir or Doctor than call by his first name. I even touched his feet for what he has been doing...

I guess in my lifetime, I have rarely seen such people with mighty heart and amazing will to do what he has been doing. And kudos to him and his mom always standing by his decision...

It's a huge responsibility and a very tough path to even take up what he has been doing... And I am sure God is watching all this and extremely happy with what this amazing person is upto...

The power of praying...

Lately I have been experiencing a strange feeling when I am praying.

Maybe I've just reached to that level. Whatever the case, I guess that's good. Good for me.

As an individual, you need to hang onto something. Something that will not drag you away but keep you rooted on the ground. On that sense, I think prayers are good. I am sure most of us would be doing it often but since I've entered late, I think this has kind of worked like magic for me.

Praying is good. This I know. But praying in a group is even better.

Off late we have started bhajans with our friends family alternating in our respective homes. It's good to see all of us channelizing our thoughts towards one cause. A prayer, meditation whatever you call it. The mind at that moment is free from any bias, prejudice and any other negativity that would otherwise crop up in a different situation.

Besides all these, it's good to see your kids sitting with folded hands, eyes closed, deep in mediation, innocently praying to lord... maybe for a toy surprise or even a candy... The ultimate goal is to ensure that they  know how to pray and channelize their thinking. Chanting hymns, shlokas etc creates such positive vibes all around us and inside the house.

I guess we all do it. Do it together. Just for few minutes a day. That personal moment is needed between you and the eternal being abode.

I have never felt this good before. I also do not claim myself to be neither God fearing nor an athiest! But this I know that someone is having a watchful eye on you. Tracing all your moves and actions and your thoughts!

And when you leave aside all your egos, tags, designations, status and start praying in unison... it is as good as experiencing God!

It is also a good outlet to let go of your inhibitions, negative emotions and anything that stops you from taking that extra step.

Besides all this... it also teaches you to be together as a family and enjoy life together rather than run after your own desires....

Have you experienced this lately?

Why do we need positive energy?

I have been wondering since long about this and I guess just as my mood the time is perfect.
I am really on a high!
Feel young (Well, 36 is not that old...), want to do so many things. Do good things. Want to see happy faces all around me.

I am so tired of watching TV where all you see is negativity. Be it programs, soap, news etc... When none of this you are watching... suddenly crawls in a scroller at the bottom... 30 people killed in a bomb blast... and what not... Until when are we supposed to experience this? Can there be an end to this?

I am really tired of all this and the nonsense happening around me. So many things go on ones mind. So many things to do.

Can we as common as a "common salt" on our kitchen table make some difference in the world at large? Well maybe no... you might reckon... but to me its all about talking good, talking the truth, talking only what is required and above all talking positive would make a change around us...

Lots of things can be done... we will discuss as we go along in the posts to follow.

But the whole idea is to be positive and stay positive and try to keep your head high.

I guess in these sullen times, positivity is what is most needed.

I mean why just these times??? Positivity is needed at all times...

Let's stay positive and spread this energy all around us.

It would really work like magic.
And by the time we realize it... lets hope in our own way, we build a happy planet around us!

What say?
